Depression Symptoms
Listed below are some of the more common symptoms of depression, though not everyone will feel all of them or feel them to the same degree
Main Symptoms of Depression
The main ingredient in depression is a feeling of sadness, either overwhelming sadness or a persistent"down" feeling. This sadness is often accompanied by a feeling of hopelessness, or being stuck in a place or situation without a way out.
Many people I have talked to who suffer from clinical depression experience physical symptoms along with emotional and mental symptoms. I've often heard this expressed as a weight hanging from the shoulders, or a pressure on the heart. It can also seem like your trying to walk through quicksand, movement becomes arduous and even the simple task of getting out of bed seem like a herculean effort is needed.
Other Symptoms include:
> Significant increase or loss of appetite.
> A feeling of fatigue or tiredness throughout the day.
> A significant change in sleep patterns, either sleeping too much or too little.
> A feeling of restlessness.
> Concentration issues, a problem making decisions.
> Thoughts of injuring or killing yourself. Thoughts of suicide.***
*** if you are having thoughts about injuring yourself or thoughts of suicide, please contact a doctor immediately or call 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433) for the National Hopeline Network or 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. And please remember there is hope, there is a better solution.
