Find Peace, Find Answers

The information listed below is based on conversations I've had with doctors and other professionals in the field of Psychology and Psychiatry as well as my own experience in finding help to treat my own anxiety and depressive disorders. This information is meant to be a guide for finding help, it should not be treated as professional medical advice or prognosis.

How to Get Help

If you are experiencing depression, anxiety, mania or any other conditions the best thing you could do is consult a doctor. I recommend consulting a Psychiatrist first, Psychiatrists can diagnose and prescribe medication. Going directly to a Psychiatrist is the fastest road to relief. With certain insurance plans you may have to get a referral by your primary physician first.

How to find a Psychiatrist:

> If you have health insurance you will probably want to contact your provider or search their website to find a Psychiatrist within your network.

> You can also use your local Yellow Page directory to find a Psychiatrist in your area.

> Search Engines and online directories can offer listings of local Psychiatrists as well. Take look at Google Local and LocateADoc.com

> Local churches may also offer Psychiatric help as well, which is always a good way of receiving help.

What to do if you can't afford a Psychiatrist:

>Treatment for mental illness can be expensive, even if you do have insurance, however their are ways to get financial assistance.

> If you belong to church, see if they have a diaconate that can offer you financial assistance.

> The Genome website has an excellent list of information about different financial aid for healthcare. Visit Genome.gov for more information.
